Relive the most iconic ASMQ finals at Agassi Memorial School, from Nova 9’s historic victory in JHS to the unforgettable primary-level showdown that showcased courage, excellence, and rising academic talent.
As Agassi Memorial School prepares for this term’s edition of the Agassi Science and Maths Quiz (ASMQ), it is fitting to reflect on the finals that have shaped our competitive culture and raised the standard of academic excellence across levels. Among the many contests held over the years, certain moments stand out not merely for the trophies won, but for the courage, preparation, and character displayed on that stage.
One of the most defining moments in ASMQ history came in 2023 when Nova 9, then in JHS 1, faced their seniors in a final that has since become a benchmark. Nova 9 had already established themselves as a formidable competitor from their Class 6 Spelling Bee days, consistently showing discipline and intellectual confidence in academic contests. However, facing seniors in the Agassi Science and Maths Quiz required more than knowledge — it demanded belief.
That final unfolded with gripping intensity. The scores tightened round after round until the contest reached a dramatic deadlock. A decisive riddle was thrown to their opponents — and it was missed. In that suspended moment, opportunity rested with Nova 9. Jeffery’s outstanding performance throughout the contest anchored the team with remarkable composure. When the final riddle came, Ella answered with clarity and confidence, breaking the tie and securing victory. Her spontaneous celebratory dance captured the raw emotion of the moment. It was a final that proved preparation outweighs seniority, and that courage can confront hierarchy. To this day, it remains one of the most iconic ASMQ finals in our school’s history.
Yet the culture of excellence was not confined to the Junior High level. The upper primary division delivered its own unforgettable chapter. In a surprising and electrifying contest, Class 5 emerged victorious over Class 6, with Class 4 securing second place. It was a powerful demonstration of how students at Agassi Memorial School are trained to confront challenges regardless of size or perceived disadvantage. The juniors capitalized on the subtle leniency of seniors who underestimated them, turning that assumption into a strategic advantage.
Emmanuel Asante delivered one of the most breathtaking moments of the primary-level contest by answering eight out of ten questions during the speed race with remarkable precision. His performance shifted momentum and electrified the room. Magical moments continued to unfold as Emmanuel Kankam confidently answered questions many had not expected him to attempt, proving that potential often reveals itself under pressure. At the end of the contest, Simon Diewuo of Class 4 emerged as the overall best contestant at the primary level, a recognition that underscored both individual brilliance and the depth of talent within the cohort.
These finals, both at the Junior High and Primary levels, reflect more than competitive spirit. They reveal a deliberate culture of preparation, resilience, and intellectual boldness cultivated at Agassi Memorial School. The Agassi Science and Maths Quiz is not merely an extracurricular activity; it is a platform where students learn to rise beyond expectation, confront fear, and transform opportunity into achievement.
As we approach this term’s ASMQ, these historic moments serve as both inspiration and challenge. The stage is set once again. Another group of students will step forward. Another chapter will be written. At Agassi Memorial School, the quiz stage is more than a contest arena; it is where standards are raised, confidence is built, and history is made.
